So, you want to make the 'best' Coffee?
We have a saying at Fantes: there’s no ‘best’ when it comes to coffee. It’s about preference. Your grandmother’s never going to like the fancy coffee machine you buy her: if she’s been using a percolator the last 30 years, she’s not going to stop now. But when it comes to the Technivorm’s Moccamaster, we say there’s no ‘best’ with a wink. If, you want the best home brew, the best brew brew, money can buy…well, the Moccamaster’s 10 cup is about as close as it gets to coffee’s elysian plains. There’s a reason consumer reports, the food network, and Tom’s Guide recommend Technivorm’s product. Indeed, as CNET puts it: “$300 is a lot to splurge on a drip coffee machine, but the Techivorm Moccamaster…makes a brew worth every drop.” If your interested in going toe to toe with your local cafe from the comfort of your home, here’s why we think Moccamaster is the best machine your money can buy:
The ‘best’ coffeemakers aspire to SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) accreditation. The SCAA sets forth rigorous standards for coffee making, backed by science and plain old taste. In brief, the SCAA’s core standards are:
- Temperature: is your brew reaching 197 degrees fahrenheit in the first minute? Does it stay between 197 and 204 after that?
- Time: does your machine prepare coffee between four and eight minutes?
- Extraction: Does your machine extract within the 18-22% threshold that delivers the ‘purest’ and most ‘refined’ taste?
Moccamaster, at present, is one of only twelve coffeemakers that are SCA certified. Not only does it meet SCA standards, it’s one of only fifteen coffee makers to earn the also prestigious ECBC (European Coffee Brewing Center) accreditation.
Technivorm’s product is also an exemplar of sustainable and thoughtful manufacturing. Their coffeemakers are hand made in the Netherlands, their heating components includereal copper, and their manufacturer’s warranty extends to an industry beating five years. How does it work? Think of it like an automatic pour over: you have the temperature control and precision of a pourover, but a machine that is so well designed it can do it for you in a fraction of the time.
We’re so convinced that you’ll love your Moccamaster that we are even willing to put your first few brews on the house: every Moccamaster that we ship this month will include a half pound of perfectly ground coffee that we think you’ll like. I’m going to finish this blog post with the same conclusion that CNET’s Brian Bennet puts forward:
“If you were to take a poll among coffee fanatics and serious foodies alike as to which brand of drip coffee maker is top dog, I'd bet dollars to donuts Technivorm would be the first name that crossed their lips. But is this reflex warranted? If my experience…is any judge, I'd emphatically say yes.”
